Commit before you compare.
Choose an answer before you open the rationale. If you are uncertain, put that uncertainty into words: which two choices are competing, and what detail would separate them? You now have a specific question to bring to the review.
Read the alternative you almost chose.
Start with the overall rationale, then read each option’s explanation. Pay particular attention to a choice that seemed plausible. Look for the distinction between that choice and the strongest answer in the situation described.
Write one sentence worth keeping.
A useful note is smaller than the explanation. Capture the distinction you want to notice next time. Bookmark the original question when you need the surrounding context, or turn the concept into a personal flashcard.
Before moving on, finish this sentence: “Next time, I will pay closer attention to…”
