Terms of Service
Effective September 29, 2026 · Version 2026.09.29
Please review the warranty disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity for misuse, and Wisconsin court provisions. Mandatory consumer rights remain protected.
1. Agreement and eligibility
These Terms of Service are a binding agreement between you and Camus LLC, the operator of Casetheory (we, us, or our). They cover your Casetheory account, study materials, tools, subscriptions, and support (the service). You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter this agreement. By affirmatively accepting these Terms during registration, checkout, or a later acceptance request, you agree to the version presented to you. If you do not agree, do not register or purchase a plan. These Terms apply only to Casetheory; separate Camus or affiliated services have their own terms. The warranty disclaimers, limits on liability, indemnity, and governing-law and court provisions below affect your legal rights. Non-waivable rights under applicable law always prevail.
2. Your account
Provide accurate account details, keep your contact information current, protect your credentials, and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. Each account is for one individual and may not be shared, sold, sublicensed, or transferred. You are responsible for activity you authorize and losses caused by your breach of these account obligations, subject to applicable law; you are not automatically responsible for unauthorized activity beyond your reasonable control. Do not impersonate another person, create accounts to evade restrictions, or let another person use your subscription. We may request reasonable verification of account ownership before restoring access, changing account details, or acting on a sensitive request. One account can study both Masters and Clinical, with separate learning histories.
3. Independent exam preparation
Casetheory provides original study materials, not official or recalled secure ASWB exam questions. The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) does not sponsor, endorse, or administer Casetheory. Exam names and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used to identify the exams covered. Check official exam and licensing-board sources for eligibility, registration, fees, accommodations, and current requirements.
4. Content quality and learning outcomes
Study materials, explanations, references, and automated recommendations can contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. AI tools are used in content preparation; AI review is not a substitute for review by a qualified professional. Do not assume every item has been reviewed by a licensed subject-matter expert or empirically validated unless we expressly identify that review or validation. Practice accuracy is not a validated readiness rating, official scaled score, or pass prediction. Practice tests may differ from the official exam in content, difficulty, timing, breaks, scoring, and delivery. We do not guarantee an exam result, licensing eligibility, employment, or a particular learning outcome. You remain responsible for deciding how to prepare and when to sit an exam. Purchasing access does not register you for an exam or grant a credential, license, continuing-education credit, or eligibility determination. Report suspected errors through support. These qualifications do not override an express written purchase promise or a right that applicable law protects.
5. Educational and professional boundaries
The service is for exam preparation. It does not provide individualized clinical, medical, legal, crisis, or supervisory advice or establish a professional, fiduciary, or treatment relationship. Study scenarios are not instructions for treating a real person. Verify information with authoritative sources before applying it outside exam study, and follow applicable professional standards, supervision, official exam rules, and licensing-board requirements. Do not enter identifiable or confidential information about clients, patients, students, or other people, actual case records, or secure exam material into personal cards, notes, content reports, or support messages. Casetheory is not a clinical record system or an emergency service.
6. Free practice
Free practice does not require payment details and does not automatically convert to a paid subscription. Purchasing a plan requires a separate checkout and authorization of recurring charges. We may limit free practice use to prevent duplicate accounts, abuse, or automated extraction.
7. Paid plans and automatic renewal
Paid plans include both Masters and Clinical. Current prices are USD 38 every month, USD 96 every three months, or USD 168 every six months, plus any applicable tax disclosed at checkout. The full plan amount is charged at the start of each billing period; multi-month plans are not monthly installment plans. Subscriptions automatically renew at the disclosed interval until canceled. Checkout shows the total, billing interval, and recurring-payment terms before you authorize payment. Your authorization permits Stripe, our payment processor, to charge your selected payment method for the purchase and subsequent renewals. Your account billing page shows your subscription status and billing-period end date.
8. Cancellation and price changes
Cancel future renewals from your account billing page by selecting the cancellation action and confirming it. Contact support if you cannot access your account or complete cancellation. Cancel before the next renewal date to avoid the next charge. Cancellation stops future renewals; paid access continues until the end of the current paid period. You can confirm cancellation status in your account. Stopping use or uninstalling a shortcut does not cancel a subscription. Account deletion is a separate process; when requesting deletion, also tell support to cancel any active subscription so billing is resolved before account closure. We will honor a clear cancellation request through support subject to reasonable account verification. Any future price change will be communicated before it takes effect, with an opportunity to cancel before the new price applies and any additional notice or consent required by law. A price change does not alter a period already purchased.
9. Refunds and billing issues
Except where an express purchase promise or applicable law provides otherwise, charges are nonrefundable after an access period begins. Cancellation does not retroactively refund that period, and unused time is not automatically prorated. Nonuse, an exam postponement, a change in study plans, or an unsuccessful exam result does not by itself entitle you to a refund. Contact us promptly about duplicate charges, billing errors, unauthorized charges, or a material service failure so we can investigate and provide an appropriate correction. This policy does not limit refunds, payment disputes, chargebacks, or other remedies available under non-waivable consumer law, and contacting us is not a condition of exercising those rights. Paid access associated with a failed or reversed payment may be restricted while payment status is resolved; contact support about an incorrect restriction. We may provide relevant purchase, access, and consent records to our payment processor to respond to a dispute, consistent with the Privacy Notice and applicable law. We do not charge a penalty merely for raising a good-faith billing dispute.
10. Limited license and ownership
Subject to these Terms and any applicable payment obligations, we grant you a limited, personal, nonexclusive, nontransferable, nonsublicensable license to access and use the service for your own exam preparation during your authorized access period. You may use download or export functions only as expressly made available, subject to the same personal-use restrictions. Camus LLC and its licensors retain all rights in the service, software, question banks, explanations, answer keys, designs, branding, and other materials, except your own submissions and third-party rights. Access is a subscription for the purchased period, not lifetime access or ownership of the materials. No commercial-use permission or other license is granted by implication. Do not remove copyright or proprietary notices. Rights that applicable law expressly grants you are not restricted.
11. Permitted use and exam integrity
Without our prior written permission, do not copy or extract protected materials in bulk, scrape or harvest the service, republish or distribute questions or answer keys, resell access, create a substitute question bank, or use protected materials to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or supply an AI system or competing study product. Do not use bots or automated account activity to bypass limits, reverse engineer the service except as applicable law permits, defeat security or payment controls, access another account or held-out material, probe systems without authorization, introduce malicious code, or overload the service. Do not submit actual secure exam questions, impersonate others, infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights, harass or threaten people, or use the service for fraud or other unlawful activity. These restrictions do not prohibit assistive technology used for its intended accessibility purpose, honest reviews, lawful reporting, or uses that applicable law expressly permits.
12. Personal content and feedback
You retain ownership of your personal notes, cards, and other submissions. You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit them and grant the limited license described here. You grant us a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, and display your submissions only as reasonably needed to provide, secure, maintain, and support the service and respond to your requests, including through service providers acting for us, subject to the Privacy Notice. This license lasts only as needed for those purposes and permitted retention; it does not authorize selling your private notes or using them in public advertising. We may remove or restrict submissions reasonably believed to violate these Terms or applicable law. For nonconfidential product suggestions you voluntarily send us, you permit us to use the suggestions to improve our products without compensation or attribution. That permission does not transfer ownership of reviews, expand permission to use personal information, or apply to confidential study notes.
13. Honest reviews and protected reporting
Nothing in these Terms restricts your right to make an honest review, report concerns to a regulator or law enforcement, participate in an investigation, or exercise legally protected rights. You are not required to assign ownership of a review or pay a fee or penalty for giving one. The content-use restrictions, indemnity, and account-restriction provisions do not override these protections.
14. Privacy and account communications
The Privacy Notice explains how we collect, use, retain, and protect personal information and how to request access, correction, or deletion. We send service-related communications about your account, security, purchases, and support to the contact information you provide. Creating an account does not itself subscribe you to marketing email. Stripe processes payment information under its own privacy notice.
15. Previous rewards
Casetheory no longer awards study points or accepts new reward redemptions. Previously earned balances and submitted orders remain on record. Contact support about an existing order or balance.
16. Third-party services and links
The service may link to third-party websites, official exam resources, or tools operated by other providers. Those providers control their own services and may have separate terms. A link does not by itself constitute our endorsement, and we do not guarantee the accuracy or availability of third-party content. Review the terms of a separate service you choose to use. This provision does not relieve us of obligations concerning our own service or responsibilities for our service providers that applicable law places on us.
17. Service changes and availability
We may maintain, update, correct, replace, or remove individual study items, features, and technical components, including to address errors, security, rights claims, or exam changes. You are purchasing the service described at checkout, not a promise of an announced future feature or permanent access to a particular question. Access may be interrupted by maintenance, technical failures, or circumstances outside our reasonable control. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for delays caused by such circumstances despite reasonable efforts to mitigate them. If we discontinue the paid service or materially reduce the core paid access you purchased during its paid period, we will provide an appropriate remedy, including a proportionate refund for paid access we cannot provide, as applicable. This provision does not excuse refunds or other obligations required by law.
18. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate access when we reasonably believe there is a security risk, fraud, nonpayment, unlawful activity, or a material breach of these Terms, or when required by law. Where reasonably practical and appropriate, we will give notice of the reason and an opportunity to correct a remediable breach; immediate action may be necessary to protect users, the service, or legal rights. Contact support if you believe a restriction is mistaken. If we permanently terminate your paid access, we will stop future subscription renewals. Termination for your material breach does not ordinarily entitle you to a refund, subject to applicable law. If we terminate paid access for our convenience without your breach, we will refund the unused prepaid portion. When your access ends, the license to access the service ends; do not evade the restriction by creating another account. Lawful amounts already due remain due, but termination does not accelerate future renewal charges. Account closure and record retention follow the Privacy Notice.
19. Warranty disclaimers
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, AND EXCEPT FOR EXPRESS PROMISES IN THESE TERMS OR AT PURCHASE, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” CAMUS LLC AND ITS LICENSORS DISCLAIM IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND WARRANTIES ARISING FROM A COURSE OF DEALING OR TRADE USAGE, TO THE EXTENT THEY MAY LAWFULLY BE DISCLAIMED. We do not warrant that the service will always be available, secure, complete, current, or error-free, that every defect will be corrected, or that it will achieve an exam, licensing, or professional outcome. An informal support response does not create an additional warranty. This section does not exclude statutory guarantees, express purchase commitments, or duties that cannot lawfully be excluded.
20. Limits on liability
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the combined aggregate liability of Camus LLC and its officers, employees, contractors, and licensors for claims arising out of or relating to the service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) USD 100 or (b) the total fees you paid to Casetheory in the 12 months immediately before the first event giving rise to the claim. Related claims are treated together for this limit. To the same extent, those parties will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or lost profits, revenue, business opportunities, goodwill, or data, arising out of or relating to the service. These limits apply whether a claim is based in contract, tort (including ordinary negligence), or another legal theory, even if the possibility of the loss was disclosed. These limits allocate ordinary economic risks in relation to the subscription price; they do not eliminate all remedies. The exclusions in the next section control over this section and every other limitation in these Terms.
21. Liability and rights we do not exclude
The warranty disclaimers, damage exclusions, liability cap, protections for events outside our control, and indemnity do not exclude or limit liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, willful misconduct, gross negligence, or reckless conduct by Camus LLC or any other person protected by these Terms; death or personal injury caused by the negligence of any such person; or any liability, statutory damages, remedies, or consumer rights that applicable law does not permit to be excluded or limited. The liability cap does not reduce an express refund obligation under these Terms. Where a limitation is prohibited, it does not apply to the affected claim. Nothing here waives mandatory privacy or data-security duties or makes a remedy exclusive when applicable law requires another remedy.
22. Indemnity for third-party claims caused by misuse
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you will indemnify Camus LLC and its officers and employees for reasonable, documented losses, damages, and legal costs awarded to a third party or included in a settlement you approve, but only to the extent caused by your knowing infringement of intellectual-property or privacy rights, your fraud or unlawful conduct, or your intentional material breach of the “Your account” or “Permitted use and exam integrity” provisions. This obligation covers third-party claims, not a claim you bring against us, an honest review, or a good-faith complaint or payment dispute. It does not cover losses caused by our own negligence or other wrongdoing. We will give you prompt notice of a claim; a delay reduces your obligation to the extent it materially prejudices you. We may manage the defense with reasonable counsel and will reasonably cooperate with you. You will not be bound by a settlement imposing a payment, admission, or other obligation on you without your written consent, which may not be unreasonably withheld. This provision does not impose an immediate duty on you to fund our defense merely because an allegation is made.
23. Governing law and courts
Subject to the mandatory protections below, these Terms and disputes arising out of or relating to the service are governed by Wisconsin law, without its conflict-of-law rules, and applicable United States federal law. You and Camus LLC consent to exclusive jurisdiction and venue in the state courts located in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, or the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, as appropriate to the claim. However, either party may bring an eligible individual claim in a small-claims court with jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of non-waivable protections of the law of your place of residence or your right to bring a claim in another court where applicable law requires that right. These Terms do not impose mandatory arbitration or a class-action or jury-trial waiver.
24. Resolving concerns and protecting rights
Please contact us with your account identifier, a description of the dispute, and the resolution you seek so we can try to resolve the matter. Informal discussion is voluntary, is not a prerequisite to filing a claim or complaint, and does not extend any filing deadline unless the parties separately agree in writing or the law provides otherwise. Either party may seek available interim or injunctive relief from a court with jurisdiction to protect its lawful rights; these Terms do not presume entitlement to an injunction or waive a required bond.
25. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms prospectively and will identify the version and effective date. Material changes will be communicated before they apply, with any notice period and additional consent required by law. New or materially expanded liability limits, indemnity obligations, or dispute provisions will apply to an existing user only after that user affirmatively accepts the revised Terms. Merely posting a revision, continued use, silence, or automatic renewal does not by itself constitute that acceptance. Changes do not retroactively alter a completed purchase, a dispute that arose before the change, or rights already accrued. If you do not accept a material change, you may cancel future renewals; we will honor the existing paid period under the applicable accepted terms or provide a refund for unused prepaid access if we cannot do so. Your registration record retains the version you accepted.
26. General contract provisions
These Terms, any specific offer terms you expressly accept at purchase, and any separate written agreement with us form the agreement concerning the service. Specific purchase terms control for that purchase if they conflict with a general provision here. Nothing in this integration provision excludes liability for a misrepresentation or negates a legally binding precontract statement. The Privacy Notice describes data practices and does not enlarge the liability exclusions in these Terms. If a provision is unenforceable, it is severed to the extent permitted by law and the remaining provisions continue in effect; a court need not rewrite an unlawful provision. A delay in enforcement does not waive a later right to enforce. You may not assign this agreement or your account without our written consent. We may assign this agreement in connection with a merger, reorganization, or sale of the service or relevant assets, subject to applicable law, the Privacy Notice, and preservation of your existing rights. No agency, partnership, employment, or joint venture is created. Except for the persons expressly protected by the liability and indemnity provisions, there are no intended third-party beneficiaries. Provisions concerning ownership, accrued payment obligations, content-use restrictions, permitted record retention, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, and disputes survive termination to the extent their nature requires, subject to all stated limitations.
27. Contact and legal notices
For account, billing, content, or legal questions, use the Casetheory contact form, email the address below, or send a written notice to Camus LLC at the postal address below. Include enough information to identify your account and concern, but do not send passwords, full payment-card details, or confidential client information.
